Latest Updates

Software updates include the new Gnome 2.31, a much speedier Evolution 2.30.2, the awesome and fast Shotwell photo manager application, a faster and smoother boot experience and Ubuntu One has received a whole lot of polish. For more information on common improvements Edubuntu shares with Ubuntu, please visit the Ubuntu Maverick Beta release notes.

Edubuntu now includes Gnome Nanny, which is parental control software written for the Gnome Desktop Environment. Since our last development release, we're also including a new and fun Periodic Table Breakout wallpaper, which the author specifically relicensed so that we could use it! The OEM installer mode is also now available in Edubuntu, which has been unavailable in previous releases.

Available for download

The Beta release is available for download immediately on the Ubuntu CD image server for 32bit and 64bit platforms.

Free High School Science Texts

Mark Horner from the Shuttleworth Foundation posted a blog entry about how you can do your part in making free high school science texts available. The books are already available for download and needs a final review before it's first publish.

The books cover Grade 10-12 Mathematics and Science. When the reviewing process is complete, it will be submitted to the Department of Education in South Africa for acceptance and distribution in the country.

This could be a huge milestone for free content in education. In Edubuntu, these texts will also be packaged and available from within the Edubuntu system in a future version.
